Health Protection Legislation
The Governor vetoed our health protection legislation, but in his veto message the Governor recommended that there be established a task force to look into effective strategies for protecting adequate and affordable health insurance coverage for retired public employees and their dependents. He also stated that it is an important goal to insure that retirees health benefits do not become a unique target of budget cuts.
Legislation has been introduced S6457 by Senator Farley, A9393 by Assemblyman Abbate, to set guide lines for this task force which will include representatives from retiree organizations and active unions. This task force must submit a report before May 1, 2008 recommending cost effective strategies for protecting adequate and affordable health insurance coverage for retired public employees and their dependents.
